1. Can you answer questions about the document I need notarized?
No, We are not licensed to practice law in Illinois and cannot accept fees for giving legal advice.
2. What is acceptable identification?
Only U.S. issued identifications are acceptable.
3. Will you notarize a document if the person is not present; they signed the document and I have their identification?
No, the signer must personally appear before the notary.
4. Why do I have to have this document notarized?
To deter fraud. An impartial witness (the Notary) ensures that the signers of the documents are who they say they are and not impostors. Also, the Notary makes sure that the signers have entered into the agreement knowingly and willingly.
5. How can my husband who is unable to sign his name because of his disability have a document notarized?
After your husband has been identify using acceptable identification; he can make a mark (X) for his signature. Also, two witnesses are needed to witness a signature-by-mark.
